Cosplay Event at BF Resort Clubhouse

Hear ye all Otaku's and Cosplay Paparazzi's out there, especially those from the Las Piñas-Parañaque area!

There is a cosplay event called "Natsumonogatari:  A Summer Tale" happening at the BF Resort Clubhouse, Lalaine Bennet Street, BF Resort Village, Las Piñas on May 27, 2012 (Sunday).  It is the very first cosplay event I know happening near a pool.  Yehey!!!  Ticket prices are Php150.00 for regular attendees and Php100.00 for kids.  The event will run from 9:00am to 8:00pm.

Individuals joining the summer cosplay event in their costumes have to wear their characters in their summer festival version.  Hmmm...I wonder how the robots would appear in their summery version.  Anyway, there will also be a singing contest, a dance battle, food eating contest and a summer art contest.  I heard there'll also be games and fireworks too.

I haven't really experienced a cosplay event yet, but my sister and her friends have, and they plan on checking out this event.  How about you?

Alaska Summer Football Festival 2012

The Alaska Summer Football Festival 2012 was held last May 20,2012 (Sun) at the Alabang Country Club Football Fields.  All Alaska Power Campers from Makati, Bonifacio Global and Alabang come together in this festival to compete against each other in a team for a chance to grab the gold or win an MVP trophy.  Two tournament schedules were held that day.  Morning tournaments 7:30am to 12NN were for Boys U18/U14/U12 and Girls U18 (4 teams each) while afternoon tournaments 1:30pm to 5:30pm were for players U10/U8/U6 and girls U12 (4 teams each).

We attended the afternoon tournament as my son belongs to the U8 category.  I do not really know much about football lingo so all I can really say at this point is that I felt I was watching the World Cup seeing my son play hard for his team.  I could almost hear my heartbeat when he stood there for a penalty kick which can win them the gold, or land them for the silver instead.  I do not have a fancy DSLR camera to capture that moment and sadly could not share the experience with anyone except my husband who was also there.

My DIY Bazura Bag

Sometime last year, a mom of my son's classmate asked me if I knew anything about making a Bazura bag.  His older son had this project in school and had to make one out of foil packs.  She tried making one herself, but was clearly disappointed with the outcome.  It was also too late for me to help out as the deadline was already within that week.  After that incident I researched on the net if there are any tutorials out there in making a Bazura bag. I found a couple of them, but the blogsite called candywrapperpurse gave me a good step-by-step instructional in making a fashionable bag out of chips wrapper, laundry detergent sachets, foils packs and more.

Amber's Delivery for a Birthday

It was my birthday yesterday!  Oh yes indeed!

I spent my morning at LTO Las Piñas for my driver's license renewal.  I was looking forward to a stressful morning there but it turns out that the crowd was light and processing was faster than normal.  I normally hate transactions in government offices because of the tugging and pushing, the long lines, the chaotic system, and the cranky public servants that we have.  Today, I was lucky to find a staff or 2 at the LTO office who returned my smile and even said thank you.

For the rest of the day I just took things slow and relaxed, answering all the birthday greetings I get on Facebook or email.  Towards late afternoon I ordered food from Amber's Sucat for dinner.  The closest Amber's Golden Cup Restaurant here in Las Piñas is at Dr. A.Santos Avenue (Sucat Road) Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque.  It takes about 15-20 minutes for our orders to arrive, and delivery fee is Php100.

Grandma Turns 96!

Today, my grandma Connie turns 96!
Happy Birthday Grandma!

Although I did not grow up with her, she was always present through Hallmark cards, letters and balikbayan boxes.  There are times she comes to visit and I remember how our pet dogs adore her because she has a  tendency to spoil them with treats.  When we visited her in California, I enjoyed watching her feed birds at her backyard garden.  She would also feed a certain cat who I thought was her pet, but as it turns out, it was her neighbor's cat.  We all inherited her love for animals, and her soft heart for strays.  All the cats we had as pets when we were kids were all strays before we adopted  them.

I also remember my Grandma's beautiful handwriting.  She writes lengthy letters to us for our birthdays and every important occasion in our lives when she could still write.  Now she has given up writing because of her shaky hands.  I really miss those letters, how neatly composed and well written they were.

Grandma is now 96.  Four more years and it'll be her centennial.
Happy Birthday Grandma.
We all love you!

Ethan's 7th Birthday at McDonald's Las Piñas

Ethan's birthday is actually May 8 which falls on a Tuesday this year.  Since his wish was to celebrate his birthday with friends and classmates, we decided to move his celebration to a weekend.  We eventually picked May 13(Sunday) when most parents are available to bring their kids or join them for the celebration and also for the reason that its Mother's Day.

Our family is very small, thus to have more guests, classmates and friends are required.  The problem with RSVP's here in the Philippines is that, people do not really call/text to confirm or decline the invitation.  To make sure there would be enough number of kids present on my son's birthday, I had to make reminders and calls to every family we sent out invitations to.  Sadly, most of my relatives who confirmed are the ones who did not make it on the day mostly because of work related reasons.

Anyway, the important thing is that one way or another we were able to present our unico hijo with a fun party as he requested.

Coca Cola Football Festival 2012

Yup!  Indeed there is a Coca Cola Football Festival, and this is their 2nd year.  We were privileged enough to participate in this event as hubby was assisting the organizers with the event.  This is also the first time our son Ethan would be able to participate in a football tournament.

Xian Lim visits McDonald's Las Piñas

We know Xian Lim as Andy Wu from the Philippine romantic comedy drama television series "My Binondo Girl."  Well, he is now the new local endorser of McDonald's Philippines with his rendition of "Walking on Sunshine" for the McFloat summer Medley tv ad.

Last May 15, McDonald's Las Piñas was privileged to have Xian Lim at their counter, serving refreshments from 1-2pm.  The place was already swarmed with people upon our arrival at 12:30.  My son and I were still able to order the McChicken meal and McNuggets meal and eat before all the action began.

This is a shot a took while gobbling down my McNuggets.  The people were already swarming at the counter.
I wanted to squeeze into that crowd myself but I have a little boy with me that I could not leave behind.

Freestyle Football and Philip Warren Gertsson

Yesterday at the Ayala Alabang Country Club, the kids of the Alaska Power Camp were introduced to Freestyle football.  The young and handsome Philip Warren Gertsson, Filipino-Norwegian Football Freestyler showed the kids a bit of his tricks up close and personal, on a very casual platform.

My son Ethan with friends and other Alaska Power Campers watching the freestyle football exhibition.

Philip is born to a Filipino Dad and a Norwegian mom.
One of the light moments during his freestyle exhibition
was when an Alaska Power Camper kid proudly commented
that the reason he is so good is that he is half-Filipino!

Philip says he practices freestyle football 6 hours daily at his driveway.

According to Philip he no longer plays football because of a severe knee injury in 2007.  He thus started focusing on freestyle football which has taken him all over the world.  Freestyle football by the way is the art of doing tricks using a football and parts of your body.  There's a lot of fancy juggling and gymnastics involved.

My son and I enjoyed the tricks he did, that goes the same I guess for the rest of the crowd that had a break from the usual afternoon football practice.  Philip was not only very good at ball handling, he was also effective in captivating his audience with his sense of humor and down-to-earth manner of talking.

I read from spot.ph that he plans to put up a freestyle football clinic at Tondo.  I do hope he puts up a clinic here in the South too, Las Piñas perhaps?!  Check-out www.spot.ph for more info and photos of Philip Warren Gertsson.
